Joanna Cooke

“It started with a passion for performance singing, from primary school in her home town of Lyme Regis, to lead roles in local musicals and talent show appearances in her secondary years. Encouragement from listeners, teachers and family convinced Joanna to study music and continue singing in her later school years.

An old music department keyboard provided the opportunity to write some of her first songs, which even then were heartfelt and looked to capture deep emotion. Hardly surprising, when growing up included listening at home to the music of classic R’n’B and Soul greats such as Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith and Nina Simone, as well as old Blues masters like Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf. Joanna has since written songs across many genres from blues to electro, soul to pop, but these artists remain sources of real inspiration.”

Joanna has since spread her wings and is recognised internationally through her music. We can’t wait for her to perform on the Altitude stage and we hope you can’t too.
